Police asking for help identifying gunman in deadly Stone Hogan Connector shooting

ATLANTA - Atlanta police are asking for the public's help with their investigation into a deadly shooting on Stone Hogan Connector.

Officials say the shooting happened around 2:40 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2022, on the 3000 block of the road.forg

According to the APD, officers arrived at the scene and found 33-year-old Jonathan Johnson shot multiple times in the head.

Medics rushed Johnson to a local hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

On Friday, the Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Unit shared footage taken from a security camera at the scene of the shooting. In the footage, a man wearing a hoodie walks past the camera. The camera then picks up the sound of multiple gunshots and a woman screaming before the man is seen running back the way that he originally came from.

"However, the video footage does not clearly depict the face of the shooter, so we are seeking assistance from the public. If anybody has any information on who this person is, we would greatly appreciate any assistance that we can get," said APD Investigator Amanda Wortham.

She says she's been chasing down leads for nearly a year and a half. They’re hoping this footage will better help someone identify the shooter.

"The suspect appears to be a tall, thin individual. He's wearing black pants with white stripes. He has multicolored tennis shoes on, he has a gray hood pulled up over his head with a baseball cap... witnesses on scene did describe him as a brown skinned male and possibly in his thirties," Wortham said.

Wortham says she's in constant contact with Johnson's family and they're desperate for answers.

"His family just wants to know; his mom is constantly checking in with me. She just wants to know, and I don't blame her for that," Wortham said.

She believes that even after all this time someone still has the tip, they need to identify this shooter.

"Mr. Johnson was well-known in the community over there. So, I believe that any information is helpful, whether it's direct knowledge or any information about him," Wortham said.

Wortham says if you know something and have yet to come forward...do it to help this grieving family.

"Their family would love some answers as well as myself to know who did this and why. and so that this doesn't happen to anybody else," she said
