Police ask for public’s help after 2 women slain in Napa

NAPA, Calif. (KRON) — The Napa County Major Crimes Investigation Team is asking for witnesses to come forward after two teenaged women were shot to death on 400 block of Riverside Drive near the Napa River.

The double homicide happened at 8:10 p.m. Saturday a few blocks away from downtown. Napa Police Department officers found two women, ages 17 and 19, suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second victim died soon after reaching a hospital.

“The victims are acquaintances and have familial ties to Napa. Following the shooting, a black colored compact sedan was seen leaving the scene,” NPD wrote.

The killer is still on the loose. On Monday police wrote, “This is an active homicide investigation, and we need the community’s help.”

Police are urging anyone who may be a witness, has photographic or video surveillance, or has additional information, to call Detective Dustin Dodd at 707-257-9568 or email ddodd@cityofnapa.org.

Misinformation is swirling around Napa in the wake of the killings. “There is a lot of speculation and misinformation being cited by unofficial community sources,” NPD wrote. Police said there’s no evidence that any nearby business was involved in the killings. The violence was not random, investigators added.

Residents left flowers and a note reading “R.I.P Sasha” at a makeshift memorial.

Police said the victims’ names will not be publicly released until autopsies are completed by a sheriff’s coroner on Thursday. Their families have been notified, police said.
