Police: Ann Arbor crash leaves car ‘vertical in the air,’ driver arrested for DUI

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An early morning crash in Ann Arbor left a car stuck atop a street sign, police say.

The crash happened around 3:40 a.m. Friday at Lincoln Avenue and Wells Street, the Ann Arbor Police Department said in a social media post. For reference, that’s about a mile east if the Michigan Stadium.

Police say a 24-year-old woman from Ypsilanti hit a guy wire attached to a pole, then landed on the street sign. When officers arrived, the car was “vertical in the air,” with the driver and her three adult passengers outside. No one was hurt.

The driver was arrested for driving with a blood alcohol content of .17% or more, Ann Arbor police say.

“This is another reminder of the dangers of driving drunk. It was very fortunate there were no serious injuries in this incident,” the police department said in the social media post. “Always plan for a sober ride home — NEVER drive buzzed or drunk.”
