Man in custody after stolen vehicle pursuit ends in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 29-year-old man is in custody after he led troopers on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).

The incident began at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4 after THP initiated a pursuit on Interstate 65 after a stolen vehicle reportedly fled from other law enforcement agencies.

During the pursuit, authorities reported the stolen vehicle struck a THP patrol car and fired a handgun from the vehicle multiple times.

According to a crash report, troopers had to use a patrol car to bring the pursuit to an end.

THP said the driver then fled from troopers and deputies on foot and crossed I-840 where he was eventually taken into custody.

The driver — identified as 29-year-old Patrick Buford of Tennessee — was taken into custody. He allegedly already had active warrants out for his arrest, said officials.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) said “police activity” was reported at approximately 5:06 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4 on I-840.

In fact, law enforcement spent part of Sunday evening blocking an exit ramp and two shoulders along I-840 due to the incident.

However, by 7:30 p.m., TDOT’s map showed both shoulders and the exit ramp were back open, allowing traffic to return to a normal flow.

Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s said they were among several agencies to help with the stolen vehicle pursuit.

It remains unclear what charges Buford faces at this time. No other information was immediately released.
