Police: 1 man killed, another injured in Highland Park shooting

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (FOX 2) - A 41-year-old man was killed while a second, 61-year-old man was wounded in a double shooting on Wednesday.

The shooting took place around 5 p.m. on Pilgrim Street in Highland Park. Michigan State Police say that the 41-year-old was the target of the shooting.

The older victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting

The Highland Park Police Department said no one is in custody at this time. Officers did find shell casing in the road.

Investigators say there currently is no suspect information. Anyone with information is asked to contact 855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

While Highland Park police responded to the incident, Michigan State Police took over the investigation – a standard practice due to MSP having more resources.

"I think it’s senseless, I think it’s unnecessary. I think the city is moving in a positive light, and to have something like this happen on such a beautiful day – it’s horrible," said Khursheed Ash-Shaffi, a Highland Park City Council member. "I was hoping that this summer we could move away from such activities in the city of Highland Park. This is news and publicity that we really don’t need."
