19-year-old dead in Chesapeake crash with motorcycle, pickup

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The rider of a motorcycle was killed in a crash with a pickup truck at a Chesapeake intersection Saturday, police said.

At 5:17 pm., Chesapeake Police responded to a crash at the intersection of Hanbury Road East and Benson Lane.

At the scene, they learned that a motorcycle was heading eastbound on Hanbury Road East and was approaching the intersection with Benson Lane, police said, when a pickup truck traveling westbound on Hanbury Road East turned in front of the motorcycle onto Benson Lane heading into the shopping center at that location.

The motorcycle struck the side of the pickup and the rider of the motorcycle, 19-year-old Ethan Jeffery Redding, was killed, police said.

Images of the scene showed a motorcycle and a pickup to the right side of the entrance to the shopping center, with debris in the intersection near the entrance, along with a number of police and a forensic unit vehicle at the scene.

Roads are open to traffic at this time.
