In case you didn't know, Poldark will be entertaining the idea of time travel (sort of) when it returns for its fourth series next year – so naturally, some things have got to change.

And for one fan-favourite character, that means a whole new identity.

To account for the series' jump forward to 1797, the part of Geoffrey Charles will be taken on by a new actor, following Harry Marcus' departure from the hit period drama.

Introducing the new Geoffrey on Twitter earlier this week, Poldark announced that young actor Louis Davison will be taking over from Harry. Welcome, Louis!

Davison isn't the only new face set to join the Poldark team for its next instalment – Max Bennett is also on board as the 'less than wonderful' Monk Adderley.

According to an official BBC synopsis, Monk Adderley is 'an unscrupulous society figure who is on a collision course with the Poldarks', so basically, we can't wait to meet him.

The upcoming series will see everyone's favourite shirtless farmer, Ross Poldark, embark on a 'political journey' to the capital, as he tries to deal with George Warleggan.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth, Dwight and Caroline are struggling with their own individual marriage issues, while Demelza struggles with staying loyal. It's all going on.

Poldark series four will return to BBC One in 2018.
