This is yet another case where Russia's actions — a country that continues its unjustified and brutal aggression against Ukraine — threaten the security of NATO member countries, Sikorski said.

The leaders also discussed ways to strengthen the security of Polish and allied airspace and the upcoming meeting of NATO foreign ministers, which will focus on preparations for the NATO Summit in Washington in July.

The Polish Foreign Affairs Ministry demanded explanations from Russia and called on the country to "stop terrorist air attacks against the residents and territory of Ukraine and to end the war and deal with the country's (Russia’s – ed.) internal problems."

The Russian ambassador will be summoned to the ministry "today or tomorrow," Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrzej Sheyna, said at the time, though he didn’t name a specific date. Poland's further decisions will depend on the ambassador's explanations.

Polish forces would have shot down the Russian missile that violated Polish airspace in the morning if there had been certainty that it was heading towards a target deep within the country, Polish Defense Minister Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh said.

Poland suggested that a Russian X-101 missile could have entered the country's airspace on March 25.
