Poland: 7 men jailed for attacking Mexican cadets

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A court has convicted seven Poles for attacking Mexican cadets last year in a massive beach fight on the Baltic coast, and sent them to jail.

Judge Bartosz Kahsin rejected the men's assertion that they had acted in self-defense during the fight with Mexican naval cadets in the Baltic port city of Gdynia in August.

The regional court in Gdynia on Tuesday sentenced one man to two years and two months, while six others were sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison.

Mexican authorities said that some 300 Poles attacked 57 Mexican naval cadets who were on a training voyage aboard a sailing vessel docked in Gdynia. Polish authorities said there were dozens of attackers.
