‘Pleasure Director’ Lila Darville Flaunts Her Bare Pregnant Belly in a Crop Top on the Red Carpet

At the New York premiere of the Netflix series Marvel’s The Defenders, star Krysten Ritter was certainly turning heads with a skintight red sequined cutout dress that was more Jessica Rabbit than Jessica Jones. But there was another heroine on the red carpet who deserves a little more attention: Lila Darville, wife of actor Eka Darville, who wore a black halter top that bared her very pregnant belly in a surprisingly elegant manner.

Lila doesn’t seem like a shy, retreating type. She is the “pleasure director” for Magic Mike Live in Las Vegas, and she’s launching a website called O. Woman, which promises to “revolutionize the way women think about sex.” It was also rather steamy in New York on Monday, with a high of 88 degrees, and that can’t be comfortable for someone with an extra person inside her. Still, it takes a special kind of body pride to show off a bare pregnant belly in a semiformal public setting. Very few celebrities have gone before her.

Kerry Washington showed just a little peek of skin in a Prada two-piece at the 2014 SAG Awards, when she was six months pregnant. “I don’t have anything to hide anymore, so I’m having a little fun tonight,” she told People.

That same year, Omarion’s then-girlfriend, Apryl Jones, attended a New York screening of Lucy wearing a top with chains draped over her bare midsection.

The boldest red carpet bump-baring to date was at last year’s MTV VMAs, where Laura Perlongo, Catfish creator Nev Shulman’s fiancée, wore a tan bomber jacket open to reveal her completely bare torso. It provided Shulman with plenty of opportunities to kiss her belly for the cameras.

As anyone who has been pregnant (or has just seen a pregnant person up close) knows, a woman’s belly isn’t always the perfect, shiny globe you see when celebrities pose topless for magazine covers or carefully styled Instagram shoots. They get stretch marks, pushed-out belly buttons, dark lines, and even hair. Rather than hiding these new developments from the world, it seems that women like Darville are celebrating their bodies’ real-life superpowers.
