Plants, paths and pizza at WIU-QC

Western Illinois University-Quad Cities is hosting the Second Annual Plants, Paths and Pizza Event in the QC Complex C Atrium from 5-8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19, in conjunction with Wild Ones, Quad Cities and the Quad Cities Graduate Study Center. Participants will learn about the connection between wellness and nature, and the benefits it can provide.

The Wild Ones is a national organization whose mission is to connect people and native plants for a healthy planet one yard at a time. Cindy Lenger, the co-president of Wild Ones said, “The Quad Cities chapter is excited to partner with WUI to bring like-minded people together for an exciting evening of education and networking. We have a diverse program exploring the connection between wellness and nature.”

Leslie O’Ryan, QC Professor of Counselor Education said, “This partnership hopes to promote environmental conservation knowing the profound effect it has on the health, mental health and well-being of society. Programs such as the Plants, Paths and Pizza Symposium provide local stakeholders with an opportunity for formal and informal involvement in the process of strengthening the knowledge, skills and actions of local agencies that ultimately benefit our community members.”

Participants will take a tour of the native plant garden at WIU while learning about local initiatives and efforts to create sustainable environments throughout our communities. The event is free to the public. Pizza, dessert and refreshments will be provided, as well as a drawing for prizes.
