Emergency landing: Airplane uses North Spokane Corridor as runway

A small passenger plane had to make an emergency landing on the North Spokane Corridor (NSC) on Saturday afternoon.

An officer from Washington State Patrol (WSP) informed news station NonStop Local in Spokane that the plane had run out of fuel in one tank and failed to switch to the second tank. A trainee reportedly piloted the plane, with a senior pilot serving as co-pilot.

The plane landed on the NSC between Wellesley, milepost 161, and Freya. WSP officers at the scene added that the aircraft landed on a construction site along the corridor and confirmed that no construction crews were nearby.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), no injuries were reported and the NSC was closed until they could figure out how to get the plane off the roadway.

As of around 3:30 p.m., WSDOT reported that the plane would be taking off southbound from the closed section of the NSC just south of Wellesley.

Shortly after departing all lanes reopened to traffic.

WSP said no one was injured and there was no damage to the area or the plane.
