Ventura County firefighters and sheriff's personnel helped locate and assist the pilot of a small single-engine plane that landed in hills between Moorpark and Simi Valley Saturday morning after the aircraft had mechanical troubles.

Local authorities, including the county Air Unit's Copter 6, responded shortly after 9:30 a.m. to a remote site along Los Alamos Canyon Road in an unincorporated hillside area northeast of Moorpark College.

Sheriff's Capt. Greg Gibson said mechanical issues prompted the pilot to ground the craft, which had taken off from Camarillo Airport. The pilot was able to land safely on a fire road or similar surface, Gibson said.

No injuries were reported.

By early afternoon, the plane had been released back to the owner for recovery from the site.
