Plainfield town budget referendum is Monday. What questions are on the ballot? A 60 second read

The Town of Plainfield will hold its annual town budget referendum on Monday, May 20.

There, qualified voters will vote on the following questions for the approval or disapproval of said questions, a vote of "Yes" being a vote of approval, and a vote of “No” being a vote of disapproval.

  1. “Shall the annual operating budget in the amount of $13,352,619, excluding the education budget, for the fiscal year July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, as presented by the Board of Finance, be adopted?”

  1. “Shall the education budget in the amount of $38,364,519, for the fiscal year July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, as presented by the Board of Finance, be adopted?”

  1. “Shall the Capital Improvement Plan for the next and ensuing five years as presented by the Board of Finance be approved?”

Those in voting district 001-47 and 002-44 will vote in the town hall auditorium located at 8 Community Avenue in Plainfield. Voters in voting district 003-44 will vote at the Moosup Fire Department, 37 South Main Street, Moosup. The 2024-2025 proposed budget and proposed capital plan can be viewed on the finance department’s page on the town website.

Persons qualified to vote at town meetings who are not electors will vote at the polling place for the district within which the property is located.

The polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m.

Absentee ballots are available, in person only, at the town clerk’s office.
