Plainfield man charged in Westfield home invasion now charged in city sex attack
PLAINFIELD - A 22-year-old city man who was charged in the Oct. 19 home invasion and sexual assault of a Westfield woman has now also been charged in connection with an armed sexual assault in the city earlier that same month.
Terence Rhue has been charged with aggravated sexual assault with a weapon, a first-degree crime, aggravated criminal sexual contact with a weapon, a third-degree crime, and two weapons offenses in the Plainfield case, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and acting Plainfield Police Director Capt. David Guarino announced.
On Oct. 4, members of the Plainfield Police Department went to a home on Randolph Road after receiving reports of a sexual assault by an armed individua, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutors Caroline Lawlor and Bryan Tiscia, who are handling the case.
DNA evidence collected at the scene on the day of the attack was processed through the Prosecutor’s Office Forensic Laboratory for testing, where analysis revealed a strong match to Rhue.

This investigation was led by the Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Plainfield Police Department, with assistance from the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
Rhue was already facing first-degree aggravated sexual assault, first-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the Oct. 19 attack of a Westfield woman at her home.
He remains held in the Essex County Jail since his October arrest. A first appearance for the additional charges was scheduled for Thursday.
