PARIS (AP) — It takes something extra special to dethrone Lionel Messi.

That's exactly what Bayern Munich striker Claudio Pizarro did by scoring four goals in a 9-2 rout of Hamburg to knock the Barcelona star into second place in the latest Associated Press global soccer rankings.

The Peruvian striker hadn't scored a league goal since the final day of last season, making his achievement even more spectacular.

Cedric Rouquette of Eurosport in France calls Pizarro "the symbol of a team, which totally dominated its subject."

Pizarro collected 133 points to Messi's 99. Dutch winger Arjen Robben pulled in 71 points to move into third by contributing two goals — one a sublime chip from the edge of the penalty area — as Bayern beat Hamburg.
