Pittsylvania-Danville Health District hosting ‘Back to School’ vaccination clinic

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR)– The Pittsylvania-Danville Health District is participating in a Back-to-School Vaccination Clinic at O.T. Bonner Middle School on Saturday, April 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Vaccines available at the clinic are HPV, meningococcal ACWY, tetanus, diphtheria, and Tdap. These vaccines are required for children entering daycare, public, and private schools and are recommended by the CDC to be given on a scheduled basis.

Pittsylvania-Danville Health is encouraging rising 7th and 12th graders attending Danville Public Schools to use this clinic to update their vaccines.

“This vaccine clinic is a convenient way for children and parents to get an early start on preparations for the next school year,” said Dr. Scott Spillmann, health director. “It is our hope that parents or guardians will take advantage of this opportunity as it will save them from taking time away from their summer plans. In addition, it will help to prevent the last-minute push to get the vaccines prior to the beginning of the new school year and will ensure students are able to start school on time.”

Onsite registration will be available at the event and walk-ins are welcomed. Anyone receiving a vaccine must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Vaccinations are available at no cost upfront and will be billed to the insurance company or offset by eligibility.
