Overnight rainfall pushes Pittsburgh closer to all-time wettest April as nuisance rain continues in Northeast

PITTSBURGH – A cold front is bringing another round of nuisance rain to the Northeast, continuing what has been a very wet April for many cities across the region.

It’s by no means a high-impact storm. However, the rain only adds to the already near-record rainfall totals in cities like Pittsburgh, which has seen its wettest April in 123 years.

HOW HEAVY IS IT REALLY GOING TO RAIN?

The Steel City reported a trace of rain overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, leaving the city 0.26 inches away from its all-time wettest April, which sits at 8.11 inches of rain set back in 1901.

The rain on Wednesday should be scattered in nature and remain on the light to moderate side, with rainfall totals of less than a half-inch for most areas.

HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER

The FOX Forecast Center said the rain will wind down quickly from west to east on Wednesday, with the bulk of the precipitation ending by the time the sun sets on Wednesday evening.

However, temperatures will begin to fall rapidly, and the precipitation could end as snow across areas of northern New England, especially in northern Maine.

A coating to an inch of snow is possible there.

After this latest round of wet weather moves out of the region, a period of dry and cooler weather will remain until at least the end of the current workweek.
