Pitt State Women Cut the Nets in KC, Secure First Ever MIAA Tournament Championship in 63-53 Win Over Fort Hays

KANSAS CITY, MO – Pitt State women’s basketball took down Fort Hays State 63-53 to secure their first ever MIAA tournament championship.

Head coach Amanda Davied and her players did the celebratory practice of cutting down the nets, as the Gorillas have punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament.

“I’m just extremely proud of the mindset and effort it takes to get here,” Davied said.

“It’s a grind all year long with very good teams and coaches. We know Fort Hays is a tough minded team, so we don’t take it for granted. It’s just a surreal moment, and I think it’s completely deserving.”

Combining for 32 points, Macie Mays and Grace Pyle lead the Gorillas in scoring. Mays scored 17 while Pyle scored 15. Gerber also added 10 points of her own.

Harper Schreiner would clean up the boards with nine rebounds, and garner four assists. Fort Hays would make the game tight with a strong fourth quarter, but Pitt would prevail in the end with a 10 point win.

Up next, Pitt State will travel to Bethany, Oklahoma to face Harding on Friday, March 15th with a time soon to be determined.
