Pitt State Softball Improves to 28-2 on the Year After a Sweep over Augustana (S.D.)

PITTSBURG, Ks — The 13th ranked Pitt State Gorillas swept Augustana (S.D.) winning game one, 4-3, and game two, 6-5, in 8 innings courtesy of a walk-off.

Pitt State has gone 4-0 this weekend so far for the MIAA/NSIC Crossvoer Challenge. The Gorillas are 28-2 on the year.

Game 1 Recap — Pitt State 4, Augustana 3…

Trailing 1-0 in 2nd inning, Kadyn Trochim ripped a shot to left field to score Amaya Snyder to tie the game at 1-1.

Augustana answered with a two-run homer in the 4th to take the lead, 3-1.

Snyder came through big-time in the bottom of the 4th after she singled to left field which allowed Courtney Storey to score to cut the deficit to one.

In the 5th inning, Hannah Burnett hit a RBI-triple to tie the game at 3-all.

Then in the bottom of the 6th, Snyder came through again after she singled to right field to score the leading run and Pitt State took the lead, 4-3.

Chelsea Beville picked up the win after going; 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER.

Game 2 Recap — Pitt State 6, Augustana 5- 8 Innings…

Trailing again early in this one, 1-0, Emily Ades homered to left field to give Pitt State the lead 2-1. It was her first home-run as a Gorilla.

In the 5th inning, Paxtyn Hayes doubled to left center to score Burnett and Pitt State extended their lead 3-1.

Augustana scored two runs in the 6th to tie the game at 3-3, then scored another run in the 7th to take the lead 4-3.

Pitt State with their back at the door responded after Trochim singled through the left side to tie the game at 4-4 to force it into extras.

The Vikings got one in the 8th to take the lead 5-4.

Pitt State scored 2 runs in the 8th inning after an RBI by Heather Arnett, and then she scored the winning run to walk it off.

Beville picked up her 2nd win of the day, 6th overall.

What’s Next?

Pitt State will cap off their weekend with a big ranked doubleheader matchup against #22 Concordia – St. Paul with first pitch set for 1:30 p.m.
