I am a loyal fan of the Detroit Pistons for well over 65 years.

I will accurately remind fans who are complaining about Pistons head coach Monty Williams that he was hired to deal with a mess not of his own making.

The Pistons have tried to help the core by bringing in veterans that could help, teach and score the basketball. Unfortunately, it has failed miserably. We hired Monty, who has to find out who can really play basketball. He can't help that injuries have plagued this team.

The Pistons' injuries have slowed his efforts to coach effectively.

Now that we have cleaned house and have new vets who are trying to get acclimated takes time. ("Detroit Pistons' Evan Fournier now serving as 'the oldest guy here,'" Detroit Free Press, March 4.)

Monty knows this, and now us fans must realize it. I see the progress and potential. The mess is not Monty's fault, but he's taken the job to try and clean it up. We need to support, not criticize him.
