Pinpoint Weather: Windy Monday, warm-up ahead

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Blustery winds continue to impact Southwest and Central Virginia on Monday. However, a quieter and warmer weather pattern is slated for the remainder of the week.

High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories remain in effect for counties along and west of the Blue Ridge through noon on Monday. Northwest winds of 20 – 35 mph are expected with gusts as high as 60 mph possible. Power outages may occur. Be aware of miscellaneous objects (tree branches, garbage cans, etc.) that may have been blown into the roads.

High pressure will dominate the forecast for much of the week ahead, leading to a dry and mostly sunny weather pattern. Monday will be a bit warmer, but the blustery winds will still make it feel chilly at times. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the 50s and lower 60s. Winds will decrease during the evening hours.

Tuesday will start with morning temperatures in the cold 30s. Thanks to the high pressure in place, warmer air will work into the region. Afternoon highs will be in the warmer-than-average 60s and lower 70s under mostly sunny skies.

The warming trend continues through the end of the workweek. For Wednesday and Thursday, expect afternoon temperatures to reach the upper 60s and 70s under mostly to partly sunny skies. Morning lows will generally be in the 30s and 40s.

A front will pass through Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday. Highs will be in the 70s. Rain showers are anticipated Friday afternoon and evening with a few thunderstorms possible. Most of the wet weather should clear out the area by Saturday morning. Expect a slightly cooler start to the weekend with afternoon highs in the 60s and lower 70s.
