Pinpoint Weather: Starting May on a warm note

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Southwest and Central Virginia will kick off May on a warm note. High pressure will influence the weather on Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in more sunshine and warmer-than-average temperatures.

Use caution during your Wednesday morning commute; pockets of dense fog are possible. Most of the fog should clear out by 10 a.m. Increasing sunshine is expected for the day with afternoon temperatures rising into the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Thursday will be sunny and unseasonably warm with afternoon highs in the middle and upper 80s. Record-breaking heat isn’t anticipated, but it will feel more like July than the beginning of May.

The warm pattern continues into Friday with highs in the 80s. Clouds will gradually increase as the day persists. A few late-day showers/storms cannot be ruled out for areas west of the Blue Ridge.

An unsettled weekend is ahead as multiple disturbances impact Southwest and Central Virginia. Saturday looks to be the wettest day with scattered showers likely. A few storms could come into the mix. The chance for showers and storms will linger into Sunday, but rain chances won’t be as high. While cooler conditions are in the forecast, highs will be closer to average for the beginning of May. Afternoon temperatures will be in the 70s each day.

Monday will be slightly warmer with afternoon highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Showers and isolated storms will have the chance to move through during the afternoon and evening hours.
