Pinpoint Weather: Rain showers end, winds pick up

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A low-pressure system will bring rain showers to areas east of the Blue Ridge on Thursday. Drier conditions and blustery winds are expected in Southwest and Central Virginia for the end of the week.

Thursday will start with morning temperatures in the 40s and 50s under mostly cloudy skies. A low-pressure system will move along the Carolina coastline, throwing more rain into Virginia. Rain showers are possible in portions of Southside and Central Virginia through midday. A few rumbles of thunder are possible.

Otherwise, clouds will gradually decrease from west to east during the day. Winds will pick up with gusts up to 25 mph possible. Afternoon highs will reach the cool 50s.

While a few isolated showers cannot be ruled out for areas north of Interstate 64, Friday looks mostly dry and blustery. Gusts of 25 – 40 mph are expected. Morning temperatures will start in the chilly 30s and lower 40s before warming up into the 60s by the afternoon. Mostly to partly sunny skies will be overhead.

Saturday will be breezy and milder. Under mostly to partly sunny skies, afternoon highs will top out in the upper 60s and lower 70s. A few stray rain showers cannot be ruled out. Easter Sunday will be just as warm with a mix of sun and clouds overhead. Isolated rain showers may pass through late in the day.

For Monday and Tuesday, scattered rain showers are in the forecast. The mild pattern will stay in place with morning lows in the 50s and afternoon highs in the upper 60s and 70s. A cold front will pass through Southwest and Central Virginia late Tuesday/Wednesday. Showers will linger into Wednesday with cooler temperatures ahead.
