Pinpoint Weather: Dry Monday, midweek rain likely

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The area of high pressure that kept Southwest and Central Virginia mostly dry on Sunday will move off the coast late Monday. Rain chances will increase for the middle of the week.

Monday will be mostly dry with increasing cloudiness overhead. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 30s and 40s before warming up into the 70s and lower 80s by the afternoon. Rain showers will begin to move through late Monday night.

Grab the umbrella as you head out the door on Tuesday. A storm system will approach from the west, resulting in off-and-on rain showers throughout the day. A few rumbles of thunder are possible. It will be noticeably cooler with highs in the middle and upper 60s.

The unsettled weather will continue into Wednesday. Showers and storms are anticipated as the storm system moves through the Mid-Atlantic. Periods of heavy rainfall may occur. Due to plentiful cloud cover during the day, the severe weather risk is low. Afternoon temperatures will reach the lower and middle 70s.

A warmer Thursday is in the forecast with afternoon temperatures in the 70s and lower 80s. A few isolated afternoon showers are possible, but much of the region will stay mostly dry.

Another storm system will bring the chance for showers and storms to Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday afternoon through Saturday. Afternoon highs will reach the 70s.
