Pinpoint Weather: Cold front brings showers, few storms

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A cold front will move across Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday, bringing showers and storms to the area.

Light rain showers are possible on Friday morning with much of the storm activity holding off until the afternoon and early evening. It won’t rain the entire day with scattered showers and isolated storms being hit or miss. However, isolated strong to severe thunderstorms could develop late in the day. The main storm concerns are damaging wind gusts, hail, and heavy rainfall.

Friday won’t be as warm due to additional cloud cover overhead. Morning temperatures will start in the cool 50s before rising into the 70s during the afternoon. The limited sunshine may keep our severe weather risk to a minimum.

A few stray showers could linger into Saturday morning. Otherwise, the start of the weekend looks mostly dry with variably cloudy skies overhead. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 40s and 50s before warming up into the 60s and 70s by the afternoon.

Sunday will be variably cloudy with highs in the noticeably cooler 50s and lower 60s. Some rain showers are possible during the afternoon and evening as an area of low pressure to our south tracks northward. Most of the rain activity will stay south of the Virginia line, but a few showers are possible south of U.S. 460.

Expect a mix of sun and clouds on Monday and Tuesday. Monday will be cool with morning lows in the chilly 40s and afternoon highs in the 60s. Tuesday will be slightly milder with afternoon temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s.
