Pinpoint Weather: Chilly mornings, mostly dry days

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — High pressure will keep Southwest and Central Virginia clear and calm for the beginning of the week. However, cooler-than-average conditions are expected for much of the week ahead.

Due to mostly clear skies and calm winds overnight, Monday will start with morning temperatures in the chilly 30s and lower 40s. Patchy frost is possible along and west of the Blue Ridge. Plentiful sunshine throughout the day will allow afternoon temperatures to reach the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Patchy frost may develop early Tuesday as morning lows will be in the lower and middle 30s; take proper precautions to protect your sensitive plants. Mostly sunny skies will be overhead for much of the day with a light southwest breeze blowing through. The warmer wind will nudge afternoon highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

A cold front will approach Southwest and Central Virginia on Wednesday. A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead with a few hit-or-miss rain showers possible, more so during the morning hours. Morning lows will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s while afternoon temperatures will rise into the 60s and lower 70s. Winds will pick up a bit with gusts up to 25 mph possible.

Thursday and Friday look mostly dry with a mix of sun and clouds in the forecast. Each morning will start with temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Afternoon highs will reach the cool 60s.

High pressure over the weekend will cause a warming trend across the region. Expect highs in the 60s and lower 70s on Saturday. Sunday will be even warmer with highs in the 70s and lower 80s. Morning temperatures will generally be in the 40s and 50s. A few isolated showers are possible each day.
