Pilot hospitalized in Winter Haven glider crash, officials say

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — A pilot has been hospitalized following a glider crash in Winter Haven on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

According to the Winter Haven Fire Department, a Schleicher ASH 31 glider went down at around 1:50 p.m. in a residential area along Avenue K Southeast, adjacent to Winter Haven High School.

Video provided to WFLA by Rachel Danzitz shows officials responding to the downed glider.

The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Officials said no additional injuries appeared to happen on the ground.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

No further details have been released and there is no threat to the public.
