Pierce announces run for Whitfield County sheriff

Apr. 29—Rocky Face resident Darren Pierce has announced he is running for the Republican Party nomination for Whitfield County sheriff in the May 21 primary. Early voting is underway for that primary in the courthouse.

"I have dedicated the majority of my adult life to a career in law enforcement, completing 18 years of service with the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office," Pierce said in a press release.

"I excelled in both the Uniform Patrol and the Narcotics Divisions, being promoted to sergeant while assigned to those divisions," he said.

Pierce said he has a bachelor's in criminal justice from Liberty University and has completed more than 2,200 hours of training throughout his career.

Pierce said he received management and supervisory certifications through the Georgia Public Safety Training Center during his time at the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office.
