Pickup truck hits Maine plow truck on I-95

Jan. 29—A pickup truck traveling too fast on Interstate 95 hit a state plow truck clearing snow from the highway.

The red Toyota pickup truck was in the northbound passing lane on I-95 in Lewiston about 10:55 a.m. Saturday when the driver attempted to go around the plow using the median, hit the plow's left wing and crash, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The crash bent the plow's left wing back and punctured the tank that holds the brine solution used to treat roads, Moss said Saturday afternoon.

Neither driver was injured.

Moss advised Mainers to leave plenty of room for plow trucks and not follow too close behind them.

So far Saturday, only a handful of slideoffs had been reported because of reduced traffic due to the storm, according to Moss.
