Pickup truck collides with 145-pound black bear on a Wisconsin highway

HILLSBORO, Wis. (WFRV) – A black bear was severely injured and had to be put down after it collided with a heavy-duty pickup truck on a western Wisconsin highway on Thursday.

Deputies with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office report that the vehicle versus black bear collision happened around 10 p.m. on May 23 near Pine Avenue on WIS 82.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 27-year-old from rural La Farge, was heading east on WIS 82, east of Pine Avenue when the collision happened.

Deputies say the left side of a loaded trailer attached to the Vesbach truck hit the bear. The roughly 145-pound black bear was reportedly severely injured and “had to be put down” as a result of its injuries.

It was noted that the trailer sustained minor damage. No injuries to the driver were mentioned in the release provided.

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the La Farge Police Department during the incident.
