Vogue.in Picks: F Lounge.Diner.Bar

F Lounge.Diner.Bar is now open in midtown Mumbai’s business district. But what’s a nightclub doing on the third floor of an impressive glass corporate tower called the One India Bulls Centre?

For starters, unlike other F Bars this one isn’t a club.

In fact "we're not going to pretend to be a nightclub," says general manager Emiliano Collazo. Lights go on at 1:30am in line with the rest of Mumbai lounge bars and the law.

"Fashion is about new trends,” Collazo says. “About being ahead of the mainstream with our location, food and music."

Michelin-starred chef Vineet Bhatia sends down his runway what he calls “fashionably small portions of light global Indian cuisine.” Drawing on design terminology such as “colour” and “clean lines” for inspiration. And all his models are virtually fat-free. It’s interesting that the management believes dal and roti can be made fashionable. Delhi designer Rohit Bal’s Indian restaurant Veda did it. But then at Veda there isn’t a dance floor underneath your dining table.

Once a month F Lounge.Diner.Bar will focus on various professionals from the fashion industry. In Focus nights will celebrate a designer a month, featuring that person’s  favourite drinks and best friends.

Admittedly the setting is perfect.

A sleek, all-black upper level dining area overlooking the lower lounge where DJ Kris Correya (of Zenzi Bandra fame) is in charge of music programming. Add to that two private rooms for up to 12 guests and a soon-to-be-launched Dom Perignon lounge, and you couldn’t blame owners Rajan Madhu and Puneet Nath for hoping FTV’s latest franchise becomes the fashion week after-party spot in the land of Bollywood.
