A collapsed resort building is seen in Gyeongju

A collapsed resort building is seen in Gyeongju, about 375 km (235 miles) southeast of Seoul February 18, 2014. Ten people attending a welcoming party for new university students were killed when a building at a South Korean mountain resort collapsed late on Monday, emergency officials said, trapping dozens in snow and rubble for several hours. About 560 students had gathered in the auditorium of the golf resort in the mountains in the city of Gyeongju, around 375 km (235 miles) southeast of Seoul. Heavy snow had built up on the roof of the prefabricated building, causing it to collapse, fire department officials said. Freshman university students were gathered at a resort in Gyeongju, South Korea, when a crack appeared in the ceiling before the entire ceiling collapsed on a group of students gathered in the auditorium. The collapse was blamed on recent heavy snow and rain, which likely put too much pressure on the roof. Ten people are confirmed dead and more than 100 were injured, The Associated Press reports.
