Rare ramp photos of Anushka Sharma

A place like Bollywood can be unforgiving towards any aspiring actor who doesn’t have a famous second name. Whoever made it big in Tinseltown without the help of a family name, had to take that extra effort unlike the star kids, who were lucky to land lead roles under big banners, in their debut.

Having said that, Anushka Sharma can be regarded extremely lucky to have made her entry into Bollywood opposite none other than Shah Rukh Khan, not to mention under Yash Raj Films banner.

She was only 20 when she made her debut opposite King Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in the year 2008. Anushka was able to pull off a confident performance for a beginner, and she even won the Star Guild Best Female Debut Award for her portrayal of Taani.

When Anushka moved to Mumbai from Bangalore following her graduation, she was not driven by Bollywood dreams, what she had in mind was a successfull modelling career. Having started working at the age of 15, she had ample experience walking the ramps.

Her big break happened when she got picked by ace designer Wendell Rodricks to showcase one of his collections in 2007. Anushka had little doubt about what she wanted to become after the completion of her studies, and she shifted to Mumbai.

She had a successful career on ramp, having featured in big events like the Lakme Fashion Week, Mumbai, and the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, Delhi.

Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Vikram Phadnis…the leggy belle had already worked with fashion’s big names, before making her Bollywood debut.

Like Deepika Padukone, another Bangalorean, Anushka has been able to carve out a niche for herself in the highly competitive film industry as well.

Anushka’s ramp photos from her modelling days offer a different picture, for it’s hard to relate the actress with that poker face, after having seen her bubbly avatars on screen.

The actress has an infectious smile, and she once mentioned in an interview with TOI that it wasn’t easy for her to maintain that deadpan look on ramp

“I don’t think I was a good model. I think I was born to emote and act. I would walk down the ramp and smile and they used to say, ‘give us a blank look.’ It was really difficult, not to smile,” Anushka said. (Courtesy: TOI)

Anushka’s next project – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – where she will be seen sharing the screen with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor, is expected to hit the screens on Diwali this month.
