2013 Pulitzer Prize Photographer Narciso Contreras

AP Photographer and 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner for Breaking News Photography Narciso Contreras.

 Narciso Contreras is an AP photographer, born in Mexico City in 1975. He started his career working as a freelance photographer for the newspapers Excelsior and El Centro.

Narciso Contreras' work focuses on human nature, conflict, and religious communities. For the last three years, Contreras has dedicated his photographic work to war coverage in Syria as well as the civil war in Burma and conflict in Kashmir.

He has also documented the religious communities of northern India and the influence of Maoism in Nepal. Contreras studied philosophy at the Philosophy College, UNAM and photography at the EAF Escuela Activa de Fotografia.

Contreras has been working professionally as a freelance photographer for the past five years.

Contreras, along with fellow AP photographers, Rodrigo Abd, Manu Brabo, Khalil Hamra and Muhammed Muheisen were awarded the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photograph for his gripping work covering the Syrian civil war. (Associated Press)
