AP Photographer and 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner for Breaking News Photography Khalil Hamra

Hamra is a Palestinian-Egyptian journalist and photographer, born in Kuwait in 1979. Kahlil Hamra attended the Islamic University of Gaza for journalism, graduating in 2002, and shortly after became a freelance photographer for the Associated press based in Rafah.

Hamra, along with fellow AP photographers, Rodrigo Abd, Narciso Contreras, Manu Brabo and Muhammed Muheisen were awarded the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography.

Hamra's work has been featured in a group exhibition in the annual international Visa Pour L'image festival in Perpignan, France for his work of a tank strike in Israel.

He has recieved a 2nd prize award from Editor & Publisher in 2004 and an Overseas Press Club America's "Robert Capa Gold Medal" in 2009 for work he documented in Gaza, becoming the first AP photograper to win the award in the last thirty years.

Since 2012, Hamra has been based in Cairo, Egypt where he has been covering the Egyptian revolution and the civil war in Syria. (Associated Press)
