William: Evidence that Putin and Trump have a VERY complicated relationship that could gravely endanger the US if Trump becomes POTUS:
Fact: In 2007, he told Larry King, “Look at Putin—what he’s doing with Russia—I mean, you know, what’s going on over there. I mean this guy has done—whether you like him or don’t like him—he’s doing a great job.” http://www.slate.com/.../vladimir_putin_has_a_plan_for...
Fact: "Russians helped finance his projects in Toronto and SoHo; they snapped up units in his buildings around the world—so much so that he came to target them, hosting cocktail parties in Moscow to recruit buyers. (His tenants included a Russian mobster, who ran an illegal poker ring in the Trump Tower and accompanied Trump to the staging of the Miss Universe contest in Moscow.) Even when he built a tower in Panama, he narrowcast his sales efforts to draw Russians, as the Washington Post has reported. “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets,” Trump’s son, Donald Jr., bragged. “We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”
Fact: "One of the important facts about Trump is his lack of creditworthiness. After his 2004 bankruptcy and his long streak of lawsuits, the big banks decided he wasn’t worth the effort. They’d rather not touch the self-proclaimed “king of debt.” It was Russian capital that fueled many of his signature projects—that helped him preserve his image as a great builder as he recovered from bankruptcy."
Fact: Is Putin already meddling in this campaign? In his chilly way, he has signaled his rooting interest. He praised Trump as “very talented.” His mouthpieces are more effusive. Vladimir Yakunin, the former chairman of Russian Railways, has said of Trump, “He is addressing some internal failings of the American people.”
Fact: Russia has a very important naval base in Tartus, Syria. "Tartus is the Russian Navy's only Mediterranean repair and replenishment spot, sparing Russia’s warships the trip back to their Black Sea bases through the Turkish Straits."
Fact: Paul J. Manafort, Jr. is currently the CEO of "the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump" and has been a very important political operative for Putin. "He also worked as an adviser on the Ukrainian presidential campaign of Viktor Yanukovych even as the U.S. government (and McCain) opposed Yanukovych because of his ties to Russia's Vladimir Putin." - Wikipedia - In working for Yanukovych, Manafort was effectively putting a Putin puppet in power and working to defeat a democratic movement.
Fact: On May 20, 2016, Trump stated the following: " Donald Trump on Friday said that he would not pursue military action against Syrian dictator Bashar Assad but would go after the Islamic State in the region."
Fact: " Hillary Clinton has consistently favored an assertive approach in Syria. "As Secretary of State, Clinton lambasted China, Russia and Iran for backing Assad, despite his nefarious behavior, purely because “he does their bidding.”
Fact: “The Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform won’t call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces, contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.”
Fact: “Donald Trump set off alarm bells in European capitals Thursday after suggesting he might not honor the core tenet of the NATO military alliance.
Trump said the U.S. would not necessarily defend new NATO members in the Baltics in the event of Russian attack if he were elected to the White House.”
Fact: “[Donald Trump is] a really brilliant and talented person, without any doubt,” [Vladimir] Putin told reporters, according to a translation by Interfax. “It’s not our job to judge his qualities, that’s a job for American voters, but he’s the absolute leader in the presidential race.”
Fact: "Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough brought up the fact that Putin has been accused of ordering the killing of journalists and political rivals. “He's running his country, and at least he's a leader, unlike what we have in this country,” Trump replied."
Fact: "Russian government hackers penetrated the computer network of the Democratic National Committee and gained access to the entire database of opposition research on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to committee officials and security experts who responded to the breach.”
Fact: Trump is currently doing his best to weaken the Atlantic Alliance with his statements that he will ban immigrants from US European allies, especially France.
On Monday night, however, Trump offered an even more explicit ultimatum to NATO allies.
"I want them to pay," he said. "They don’t pay us what they should be paying! We lose on everything. Folks, we lose on everything."
He went on to criticize former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's foreign policy record: "She makes it impossible to negotiate. She’s not a negotiator. She’s a fool.”
"We have to walk," Trump added. "Within two days they're calling back! Get back over here, we’ll pay you whatever the hell you want."
"They will pay us if the right person asks," he said. "That’s the way it works, folks. That’s the way it works."
