PAUL: I guess the big question is, how informed is the American electorate. We will probably hear a bunch of unsubstantiated statements, vague, unworkable and undefined policy plans or even outright lies. If the rules mean these aren't going to be challenged by the moderator or allowed to be challenged by the opposing candidate the debate will just turn into a superficial popularity contest, not a good way to select a president. In theory the debate is all about swaying the undecided voters, bur surely both candidates should still have to show their ability to present and define real policy positions and some detailed knowledge of world affairs.
