EFlatMajor: I'm an independent and tend to be somewhat liberal, but I am sick of people demonizing each other. I think the only way to save this country is for each of us to look in the mirror and ask what our own issues are. Especially racism. I have yet to meet a single American who isn't at least somewhat racist, and that includes me. The trick is to talk about it without trying to shame the other into being almost sub-human. There ARE degrees of it. If we could see it, as well as other "isms", as filters, not masks of shame, I'd think we'd be a lot better. The caller from NC who asked a black host how he could confront his own racism is, to me, a candidate for person of the year. (meant positively). If only we could all do the same... And finally, for God's sake, turn off the damn TV and start hanging with people who don't necessarily share your political beliefs. You'd be amazed at what you could learn.
