The Ganesh Chaturthi festival, which begins from Sept. 9, is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha who is widely worshiped by Hindus as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.

The popular 11-day religious festival which is annually celebrated across India, this year running September 9-19 and culminating with the immersion of the idols in local water bodies. (Associated Press)
