Cardinals win on controversial game-ending play
The St. Louis Cardinals pulled within half a game of the San Francisco Giants for the last playoff spot in the National League on Thursday night with a win over the Cincinnati Reds that ended in controversial fashion.
In the bottom of the ninth inning with the game tied at three against the Reds, Cardinals hero Yadier Molina hit a looping liner into left field.
As Matt Carpenter raced around the basepaths, the ball bounced over the fence for what should’ve been a ground-rule double.
Instead, nothing was called.
“I just kept my head down and kept running,” Molina said.
“I didn’t really hear or see anything.”
