Giant Nude Statue Stirs Controversy in Calif.

A 55-foot statue of a nude woman, which first debuted at Burning Man, is stirring controversy in the San Francisco Bay Area. The statue was unveiled in the San Leandro neighborhood, where some critics say it's not appropriate public art. (Oct. 21)

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the festival, which takes its name from the ceremonial torching of a giant wooden effigy. The event began modestly in 1986, when a handful of friends torched an 8-foot (2.4-m) wooden man on a San Francisco beach.
