Behind the scenes of 'The Future Is Now': Wahooo Swim Monitor System

Nothing says summer quite like swimming at camp. For the Wilton Family YMCA in Wilton, CT, there is an extra layer of protection to keep swimmers safe. In addition to lifeguards, they employ the Wahooo Swim Monitor System. Each camper who goes in any of the pools or the ponds must wear a Wahooo Swimband on their head. If a Swimband remains under water for 20 seconds, a yellow light on a Surface Tower around the swim area alerts lifeguards. If the band is under the water for 30 seconds, the light turns red and an alarm sounds to alert lifeguards that something might wrong.

The host and a crew from the new Yahoo! News show "The Future Is Now" visited the Wilton Family Y and spoke to their camp director and a co-creator of the Wahoo to find out how it works and how it helps keep the campers at the Y safe.
