An actual debate goes something like this -- Moderator: This is our first question. You will each have 5 minutes to answer. Mrs Clinton, you will go first. The USA has huge deficits. How do you plan to address this, and what programs do you believe can be cut first? Mrs Clinton: (5 minute response) Mr Trump: (5 minute response) Moderator: This is our second question. Mr Trump, you will go first. Since illegal aliens are undocumented, the US government has no idea how many there are, where they are located, what they are doing, how many children they have, or if they are safe. What programs do you propose to address these issues? Mr Trump: (5 minute response) Mrs Clinton: (5 minute response) /Moderator asks additional questions, with alternating responses by the candidates/ Moderator: We will now have a rebuttal period. Mr Trump you will have 5 minutes to rebut the positions of Mrs Clinton on any subject which we have discussed. Mrs Clinton, you will have a 5 minute rebuttal period, following Mr Trump. Anyone who went to high school or college knows what politicians have been doing on TV for past decade or so, is not really "debating", it's verbal sparring.
