A ghost town on Staten Island

Of all the neighborhoods hammered by Hurricane Sandy, Oakwood Beach on Staten Island sustained some of the worst blows. The neighborhood lies along the shore surrounded by wetlands, easily rolled over by the hurricane’s storm surge. Of 186 homes in Oakwood Beach, five owners turned down a buyout, leaving the neighborhood a ghost town of boarded-up homes and empty lots overgrown with weeds. (Yahoo News)
