SkyFOX: Local deputy’s SUV struck, goes off roadway

TROY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a Geauga County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

The crash happened at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday on U.S. Route 422 in Troy Township.

Photos from the scene show the deputy’s SUV was heavily dented by the driver’s side door. The vehicle went off of the roadway and into a grassy field.

“The deputy’s vehicle was hit by someone behind him who failed to stop,” according to Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand.

The deputy was taken to the hospital “but will be OK,” he said.

The large pickup truck that was involved in the crash had some damage and also went off the road into the nearby field.

OVI checkpoint planned in this local city Thursday

Officials said three people were hurt, but did not release their conditions at this time.
