Smoking material blamed for VB apartment fire that damaged 8 units

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — More than a dozen people and eight animals were displaced as a result of what fire officials deemed an accidental fire to an apartment building in the 600 block of Pheasant Run Thursday, a fire official said.

The fire, which damaged eight apartment units, started in a trashcan on the second-floor stairwell of the apartment building from discarded smoking material, and the fire is no longer under investigation, according to Barbara Morrison, a public information officer with the Virginia Beach Fire Department.
