Photos: Flash flooding buckles roads, strands motorists in mid-Atlantic

A slow-moving batch of downpours drenched and flooded parts of eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey on Friday.

Flooding forced officials to close a portion of 283 between Lancaster and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Friday afternoon.

On Friday evening, local law enforcement reported ongoing road closures and high water due to earlier heavy rain across the warned area, especially in the Manheim, Mount Joy, and Landisville areas.

Amtrak issued a message that it was putting a temporary hold on trains traveling through the Mount Joy area.

The flash flooding was caused by slow-moving storms that repeated over the same areas.
