Photos: 2 wanted in archeological theft at national park

MOAB, Utah (WJW) – The National Park Service is seeking information on two suspects wanted in an archeological theft that happened at Canyonlands National Park.

According to NPS, two people entered a closed area, removed artifacts from a cabinet and potentially damaged them.

It happened in the Cave Spring Cowboy Camp around 5:30 p.m. on March 23, 2024.

NPS just released the photos from trail cameras in the area in hopes of catching the suspects.

According to NPS, Cave Spring Cowboy Camp includes original items left behind by pioneering cattlemen in the 1800s.

NPS says signs warn visitors to “not enter the camp, touch or remove the objects.”

National parks are some of the most special, treasured, and protected areas of our country. To protect their natural and cultural resources for this and future generations, all visitors to national parks are expected to follow park laws and regulations and practice Leave No Trace principles to minimize their impact on park lands,” NPS says in a press release.

They’re asking for tips, which can also be anonymous.

The incident remains under investigation.
