Pevely man sentenced for recording child sexual abuse

ST. LOUIS – A Pevely, Missouri, man appeared in federal court on Wednesday to be sentenced for recording his sexual abuse of a young girl.

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Matthew Gamel, 36, pleaded guilty in February to one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of receipt of child pornography.

Gamel told the court that he sexually abused the victim and recorded it on at least four occasions. The victim was under the age of 14 at the time of each recording.

Gamel admitted keeping the video files of his abuse as well as possessing more than 1,700 media files containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) that he found online.

A U.S. District Court judge sentenced Gamel to 40 years in federal prison.
